Andover KS WWTP Upgrade

Andover KS wwtp upgrade is one of the first design build projects in KS utilizing SRF Funding.  Engineer/contractor selection was qualification based, then the city with the assitance of the city retainer consulting enginer developed the firm scope of supply for the project.

Concurrent design & construction schedules provided for a 9 month construction span for a quick and coordinated project.

When the project started the city's flow was 300,000 gpd. Six years later the flow has increased to 750,000 gpd.  Community growth continues to spiral upward with home starts and annexation of surrounding areas increases the flow monthly.  The design for 1.2 MGD ADF is for 10 years with a second phase of the wwtp is predesigned for expansion to increase the flow to no less than 2.4 MGD.

The design build was a concern for KDHE personnel as their recent experience was poor.  However, since this project success, state personnel are more open to the concept with many projects proceeding with SRF Funding in KS.

Brian Walls and Lance Durfrey appreciate the reliability of the equipment reliability and effuent quality.   Recently, a new computer control system has reduced the electrical consumption by 25-30% as blowers are off for 120 minutes and on for 120 minutes.  This allows energy conservation for 12 hours per day and operate the plant on 5 hp.
