Client and engineer visit several types of wwtp facilities
Cost evaluation against the following treatment types:
Carrousel
Aero-Mod
Cost evaluation provided Schreiber as the most competitive
construction and O&M costs with electrical costs
Expansion to be Schreiber concentric ring GR system
New headworks building New Lab building
New Bar Screen location New Dual .5 MGD GR
New Washer/Compactor New MCC room
New WEDECO UV New Blowers indoors
New Cascade Aeration New Non-Potable water
New Office Building New Status Panel
Headworks
Screening & Washer Compactxor
Grit/Grease removal system
Influent 4-way Splitter RAS/WAS Return Box
Aeration Basin & Blowers
UV Disinfection
CONTROL ROOM & MCC AREA
NEW LABORATORY BUILDING & CONTROL ROOMS
Central Air Conditioning allows for separate conditioning of the general office building and also separate cooling for the MCC area of the building. Excellent design considerations for operator comfort and efficiency
Lunch Room in front office area allows for operators to watch visitors approach plant for security and an area for people to meet. Lunch room has grease board for illustrations and notes to other operators.
Computer allows for operators to keep accurate records for wwtp data and maintenance schedules on equipment. Lots of counter space and book shelves allow for clean working surfaces.
Computer will be SCADA ready for next phase of fiber optic system
Laboratory complete with microscope, scales, and other apparatus to monitor biological activity in wwtp facility. Windows allow operator to view the site in all directions to make sure equipment is operating as expected.
UV ballast cabinet in air conditioned room for temperature control and opertor aware of the sysem operation. The system allows for operator to be able to monitor exact condition of all functions from a local and remote control panel. The automatic wiper system can be actuated from the control panel. The wiper is functioning so well that the system has not been cleaned in the six months of operation.
Downward opening gate weir at opposite end of channel from the influent end, allows for head loss control and a stabil liquid level control.
Status Panel informs operators of every motor in the system and records all flow meters. Notice the DO levels (red & green) varying depending on the cycle of the wastewater from 0 ppm DO to 2.5 ppm DO. System will denitrify and provide biolgical P removal with only a timer change.
Project Team on final walkthrough day.
BG Consultants, KDHE, and City Personnel
"An excellent facility that all can be proud of for the City of Baldwin City. The facility is predesigned for expansion and nutrient removal. All aspects that are important for a growing comunity and potential changing future regulations."
- KDHE Comment
Maximum Flexibility -
Any basin with either or both influent flow or RAS
Washer compactor collects screened material and then removes organics by washing agitation and then squeeze compaction. Material is so dry that it looks like a cylinder.
NO ODOR in washed/compacted materials.
Grit is "classified" and then disposed into the dumpster for disposal.
No Muss - No Fuss
Grit/Grease Removal System
Important due to leaky collection system for grit and also few restaurant grease traps to remove grease from influent
Previous screening collection was a manual operator fabricated "belt conveyor" with an old tractor wheel.
Screenings were messy, highly odor generating, and wet. A poor job.
The new system is much better and cleaner.
Blowers located indoors allow for safety and increased operator maintenance in all types of weather. One duty blower per basin with a redundant blower. Vertical pipe is for future basin connection for redundant blower.
