Washer Compactors can be of various styles and layouts.
The focus for washer compactors is to "clean and dry" screenings from screening devices that remove inorganic and collected organic materials in the incoiming waste stream.
Not all washer/compactors are as effective as others. For example, some are ineffective designs that have a single or duplex spray nozzle over a inclined screw conveyor. While these units can be effective, the solids discharged are cleaner than just screened material, the "dewatered" screening material still have a significant portion of organic matter contained in the discharge.
The most effective washer compactor is a unit that has a separate "washing" section and then a separate "compaction" device. This allows a shaftless screw conveyor device that "cycles" forward and backward several times before the washing section is cleared. The compaction section is a shafted screw conveyor with a compaction section to push the solids into a dumpster or continious bagger device for disposal.
